FACTS

There are no standardized methods to measure what molds, at what
exposure levels, over what period of time, might cause any given
person to become ill.

Mold problems are
typically the result of water intrusion through bad plumbing or
structure leaks. This means that any building is at risk,
including new homes or new buildings.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the federal
authority on health in the United States, has declared very few
illnesses directly related to mold exposure.

The
Environmental Protection Agency estimates that on any given
school day one in five Americans are in a secondary school.
Unfortunately, school district budgets typically aren’t large
enough to allow for proper upkeep of the buildings to prevent
and repair water intrusion, thus allowing mold growth to occur.

The “Katrina Cough” is a respiratory illness thought to be
linked to exposure to mold and dust after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Louisiana in 2005.

Mold needs moisture to grow. If homes and buildings are kept
moisture-free through proper maintenance, the potential for mold
infestation is limited.
